terry haas goods: ask HGTV's expert YOUR questions on bovagoods!

yep,  terry haas.....from HGTV....is my friend......

we just met a couple of months ago...but she is the real deal.

so nice.
so funny.
so real.
so good.

so, of course i had to get her on bovagoods!

actually, she offered before i even had to ask.
she pretty much rocks.

terry is a partner in a charleston area real estate group, she has her own home staging consulting business, and recently co-wrote a downloadable ebook.

but most people know her for her recurring role on the HGTV show "designed to sell".
she is one of the expert real estate agents the show brings on to talk about the good, the bad and the ugly.

 terry is brilliant at this.

watch her in action in this "designed to sell" episode called "snap".

and here she is again in a great interview that our local news station did with her:

i was fortunate enough to be able to watch her at work a few weeks ago.

my friend susan won a free consultation with terry. lucky girl!  so, terry came to her house and spent two hours telling susan and her husband, the good. the bad. the ugly. susan's house is adorable so there wasn't too much bad or ugly.  i begged susan to let me come along. she said yes. what an awesome friend.

(terry LOVED susan's kitchen. what's not to love? her only suggestion was to add granite counter-tops. even though susan has beautiful solid surface counters- some buyers will immediately reject a home because of no granite. and because susan and her husband aren't planning on moving soon, they can make this investment now and know that it will pay off in the end.)

it was so fun to watch terry in action.

(yep, terry even looked through susan's cabinets. and buyers will too!)

she also told them how to:

stage their home
improve curb appeal
make low-cost improvements that will help to sell their property at top dollar
what big dollar improvements are worth the money

susan and her husband aren't planning on moving any time soon, so terry discussed with them what improvements would bring them the most money in the future.

(susan's home has an amazing backyard complete with a ginormous live oak tree. so so pretty. terry loved it and suggested that they build a huge patio to extend the square footage of their home.)

thanks again, susan for letting me tag along on this special day!

(susan and terry)

do you wish that you too could have a little one on one time with terry?

you can!

terry has graciously offered to answer YOUR questions here on bovagoods!
so, ask away!!!
anything you want to ask....even the personal stuff. (she said it's ok.)

~man cave vs. outdoor patio?
~do we really need to remove family photos when selling?
~who is your favorite person on HGTV?
~how do you keep from getting discouraged in this real estate market we are in?
~where do you film?
~are you really friends with elisabeth or is she just saying that? (heehee...)

feel free to steal any of these questions and ask them yourself....i just wanted to give you all a few ideas to get the ball rolling....

i know you will come up with some great questions for her.

you can leave your questions in the comment section of this post or email them to me at

bovagoods@gmail.com

all questions will be entered into a drawing for a free copy of terry's new ebook,  make every buyer want your house.

if you want, ask more than one question for more than one entry. just send a separate email or leave a separate comment for each question.

but wait! there's more! (haha....i sound like an infomercial!)

terry has offered $5 off the purchase of her ebook to all of my readers. she is great, isn't she? come back to bovagoods and read terry's answers and i'll give you the details.

ok, bovagoods readers....don't let me down!

ask away!!!!

diy goods: fabric flowers

~an update on 40 bags.

~a guest post here on bovagoods by my amazing and talented friend paige.
~an amazing opportunity for my readers (that's YOU!) to ask terry haas of HGTV anything you want! and she just told me she LOVES personal questions! AND, she is offering my readers a sweet deal on her ebook.(triple eeeeeeek!) i can not wait for this!!!!!
~and finally....the reveal of our playroom.

today i am going to show you how to make these:

i was so excited to find a tutorial on house of smiths a few months ago.

you can find it here.

the tutorial on house of smiths is great (and deserves all the credit for this post) and so is the rest of the blog...you should totally check it out.

so, here's what you need:

fabric scraps
clips, pins or headbands
felt
buttons (or other items for the center of the flower)
hot glue gun

cut out a bunch of fabric in a few different sizes of circles:
the bigger the circle, the bigger the flower.
if you cut out 5 inch circles, you will end up with a 5 inch flower.
(note: 5 inch flowers are really big.)

mine are made with two layers/two different sizes. but you could do one layer, or three layers.
it takes six circles per layer.
the circles don't have to be exact.
i looked around the house and used bowls, cups, etc. for patterns.

stack up the six layers of fabric, hold the card stock pattern on top and cut.

cut some felt into a 2 inch circle. (you will need 1 circle per flower.)

take a fabric circle, and fold in half:

then, fold that like this:

then, flip that over and fold over the other half.

then, you have something that looks like this:

it sort of looks like a double cone thingy.

then, take your glue gun and put a bit of glue between the layers of fabric at the bottom near the points to keep them closed/folded. don't use too much glue and don't smoosh it out all flat or you'll have flat flowers.

then you have a bunch of these:

now start gluing them to your 2 inch felt circle.

glue the smaller cones/petals on top.

it will look like this on the bottom:

then glue the button to the center and when that dries, glue on your clip, pin, headband, etc. to the back. (the house of smith's tutorial makes headbands, go there if you want to see how she does it.) (actually, go there no-matter-what, cuz it's awesome there.)

i made the girls flowers out of white linen to wear for easter.
dresses: clearance rack at GAP kids
pink sandals: wal-mart
white sandals: target-fall clearance
hand painted basket/purse: vintage family piece

lucy's started out as a huge 5 inch flower. it was way too big. (maybe on a headband it would work) so, i trimmed it down a bit.  i think it ended up being about 4.5 inches.

eloise's is the 4 inch size.

i needed to add some color to my dress for easter so i pinned a couple of flowers to my waistband.
dress: land's end canvas (clearance last year)
shrug/sweater thing: tj maxx
silver necklace: lisa leonard
blue beaded necklace: vintage
earrings: target
sunglasses: coach (found at tj maxx)
flowers: made by me!

the flowers on my dress are 3 inch and 3.5 inch with pins glued to the back. i also played around with pinning the blue one to the side of my necklace. it was really cute. so many ways to use these.

pin them to your belt, necklace, purse, top, hair, jacket, bathing suit, beach bag, throw pillow.....

so easy.
so good!

hope you all had a wonderful easter!
