Someone Else's Goods

I spent a little bit of time on Craigslist this morning. Remember when I vented about how frustrating the list is where I live? Well, I still think things are overpriced here in the low-country but I was able to find a few goods that caught my attention.

Hear me out on this one....this cabinet is listed for $90. That seems like a deal to me. Look at all the storage this would offer. I like how the curved lines of the bottom and that it has legs.  And, yes of course I would paint the heck out of it!

There are two of these cute little cafe chairs. They are listed for $25 each. I love the rustic quality of the woven seat paired with the quirky swirled metal back.

I actually think this china hutch is pretty in it's natural wood finish....although, imagine it in sleek shiny black with patterned wallpaper lining the back of the shelves! I like the clean simple lines and at $200 I would really consider this piece if I needed something like this. I kind of wish it had some legs to stand on though.

How cool is this restored vintage floor fan? Oh, those red blades are calling out to me! And look a the base...how pretty is that? It's listed for $125.  Because I have children this wouldn't be a safe choice for us- with the unprotected blades- or I would be taking some action!

I really love old metal beds. This one needs some paint but for $50 I think it is priced right.

These vintage chairs are so fun.  If the fabric is in good condition, it might even be fun to leave the orange and paint the wood white. They are listed for $150 for the pair. That's a lot of personality for $150.

This cute little wagon is listed for $50. I could see using this to cart supplies around the yard while gardening.

I am a sucker for rooms that have matching twin beds.  These sleigh beds look like they are in pretty good condition. I think $350 is a great price for both of these.

Ahhh....more metal beds. I'm not sure if it's the beds I like or the fact that they are sitting in the middle of a field. You can get both of these for $180.

Old typewriters are so cool. I love the way they look on display. This one at $20 would be a fun purchase.

Please remember to be safe with Craigslist transactions. Never go alone to someone's home and always meet at a public space like a Wal-mart parking lot whenever possible.

E.

cb2 goods from charleston home mag.

it had been a few hours awhile since i had flipped through my fall/winter issue of charleston home magazine.

(i sort of still can't believe that my dining room is actually in a real magazine.)

i am so in love with Ann Ladson Stafford's home featured in the story "talent show".

i always find myself stopped at page 59...

...lovin' that green cb2 bench.

the rest of her home is equally awesome.

check out here.

two other things i am loving from cb2 right now:

the go-cart desk and the knitted pouf.

love that bright turquoise color!

all three have been pinned and pondered!

playroom goods: $25 restore bookshelf

you know how i love my local habitat for humanity restore...

...huge solid wood book shelf,

$25.00.

yes please!

this is the first time i have used zinsser primer. i did not want to have to sand this beast!

i loved the zinsser!

to read more about zinsser, check out paige's project, here.

one coat of primer and two coats of paint.

i applied the paint with a small foam roller. it was so much faster than a brush. i still had to use a brush for the nooks and crannies, but overall this project went pretty fast.

about 6 hours.

here are the results:

this bookshelf offers tons of storage for $25.

it's always nice to have a little help filling the bins and organizing everything.

it's amazing what a coat of white paint will do, isn't it?

to see the rest of the playroom go here.

monday i will show you how i made the 3D wood numbers that are on the bins.

have a safe and fun halloween weekend everyone!

elisabeth

diy goods: to paint or not to paint????

i picked up this morris chair many years ago for $50. i re-did the cushions and it now sits in our master bedroom. i can't decided if i should paint the chair or not. i love the details in the wood and i think they might show more if the whole thing is painted white. what do you think? i would love it if you left a comment and told me your opinion. thanks!

grandma's goods: design*sponge is after my heart

here is an example of what kate did when she actually did inherit two of her grandmother's danish mid-century chairs. (see yesterday's goods if you are confused.) this beautiful before and after was posted on design*sponge today. talk about drab to fab! go here for the full post.

"this next before & after comes from one of my favorite people, designer kate lydon of saturate and civil twilight. these danish chairs were a favorite of kate’s from her grandmother’s home way back when. after inheriting them she decided to repair and clean the frames and update them with affordable ikea fabric. thanks for sharing, kate!"

two dollar goods: grandma's ugly chair

this past sunday i picked up this chair at my church's Oktoberfest white elephant sale for $2.00. yes. that's right. t-w-o d-o-l-l-a-r-s. originally, i liked it because it has cushions that are easy to remove and recover and it wouldn't require re-upholstery. but after i got it home and looked it over i began to think that this "ugly" two dollar chair might be something a little more special and possibly mid-century. i proceeded to find the exact same one on ebay. the ebay listing calls this chair a "danish mid-century modern lounge chair". i also found out that the "baumritter" furniture company was bought out by ethan allen in the 70's. i guess grandma's old ugly chair is making a come back...these types of chairs are all over ebay. sets of them (nicer than this one) are selling for $500-$800 per pair. the only thing better than paying $2.00 for one would be to inherit one from your actual grandma.

transparent goods: low slung jeans beware!

i have been obsessing, for a while, over this acrylic chair. or any acrylic chair for that matter. i love that these ghost chairs let you see right through to the next best thing; desk, dining table, art, wall color or wall paper (which, by the way, is completely back in style. not sure how i feel about that yet). i would love to pair my ghost with an old, shabby, paint-chipping-off kind of table/desk.
