blog goods: i linked up!

some good things going on around here!

i recently started following the blog, theletteredcottage. i know, i know...where have i been?
they did a post the other day on how to make a spring wreath and then offered the opportunity for other bloggers to link their own "how to" posts at the bottom. it's called a "linky party".

here's the wreath...cute, right? (click the link above if you want to make one, and check out their blog while you're at it!)

this "linking" happens all the time on blogs.  for those of you who blog, this is old news. (i'm going into a little detail here because i have a lot of friends and family who read this who probably have no clue what a linky party is.)

i have never "linked up" before. i know, i know....where have i been???

so, i linked my "how i paint a room" post.

when i got on blogger to check my stats yesterday, there were tons of hits to my "paint a room" post.  i had totally forgotten that i did the linky party and i was like, what??? then, i started getting comments to that post and i was like, oh yeah....the linky party!  i am still a very small blog and comments are like gold to me. i was so excited to be getting such sweet comments! it seems as though that post i did has really given some confidence to people who want to paint their rooms. what a great feeling!

in all honesty, i really seriously almost didn't write that post. i just wasn't sure anyone would care. but they do!

thank you to everyone who has left a comment. your sweet words make me want to keep right on blogging! and thanks letteredcottage for being my first link-up. ;)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
another good thing....i am waiting until the afternoon sunshine pours into my dining room and then i am going to click away with my camera. so, hopefully by this time tomorrow i can share my dining room with you!  this is my first big room reveal. are you excited? i am!
i hope your day is filled with good things!
bova goods goods
i added some goods around here.
i realized that half of the blogs that i love dearly and read every day were not listed on my blog list. so, if you will, please take a look at "good blogs" over there on the right hand side. take your time. grab some coffee and give yourself at least two hours. you won't be sorry. some gooooood stuff over on that there list. (new ones that i am really enjoying: "house of smiths", "gus and lula" and "i heart organizing")  please just make sure you come back here every now and then, k?
toward the top, i added a little section called, "goods i'm dreaming about".  this is my wish list. there are links to things i am obsessing over currently and/or have been loving for quite some time. i am more than happy to send you my shipping address if you are feeling generous. ;) hee hee.  i am always so interested in what other people are pining over and wishing for so i thought it would be a good place to list mine.  now, let it be known, in no way am i expecting to ever actually own all of these things...but a girl can dream, right? and also let it be known, there are actually a few pretty affordable things on my list...and i do have a birthday now and then. just sayin'. ;)
hope you enjoy the new goods!
print goods: made by girl
i've been thinking a lot about what kind of artwork i want to hang on the walls in the playroom and dining room. (the two rooms i am working on.) i think the addition of typography would be great in both of these rooms. i keep going back to this "love" print by jen ramos of the blog "made by girl".
it's so simple and clean and affords an excellent opportunity for showcasing a big splash of color.
but most of all it's the best four letter word that exists, right?
(shhhhh...don't tell, but depending on my mood i have been known to utter some other four letter favorites.)
....but this word is the best. and the prettiest.
you can purchase this print in jen's shop along with tons of other adorable goodies.
also, check out her blog. lots of goodness there.
now, which color do i choose???
~elisabeth
ps. did i mention that jen's "love" print was featured on the nate berkus show as a leading trend? yep it was. how cool is that? watch it here.
returning goods: i'm back!!!!
whew! wasn't summer vacation great?
hahaha...i know, i know, summer has been over for like, ever!
i have a few friends that keep reminding me....
"elisabeth, summer's over,
update the blog, please!"
thank you friends.
you know who you are.
it shows me you like it here.
and that you care.
and that makes me happy.
i'm not really sure why it has taken me so long to get back here.
but i have a few ideas...
my favorite blogs are ones that feature diy projects and pictures of the blogger's home.
and are cute.
and that's really what i want my blog to be.
but my blog isn't one of those.
yet.
and the projects just weren't happening.
well, some of them happened, but i kept feeling like the room had to be just perfect
before i could post the "after" pictures.
i have a tiny little piece of me that's a perfectionist.
(thank goodness it's not a big piece of me because i don't know how perfectionists get anything done! but boy oh boy, when they do get things done, it is really really amazing. i know, because i am related to some perfectionists and they are the most talented people i know!)
i have a little bit of "if i can't do it perfectly, i won't do it at all" in me.
so blog posts
take me forever.
get the photos right,
change the font,
edit five million times,
make sure spelling and grammar is perfect,
or as perfect as it can be in the middle of the night.
but i am changing my attitude.
because i have missed the goods.
so, i will figure out how to make a cute header on picasa.
i will do more projects and take lots of pictures
and share them with you.
but the pictures may or may not get edited
and they may or may not be in focus.
i will write.
and not edit and re-edit
and not go crazy trying to form perfect sentences.
or change the font to anything other than the default on blogger.
i am going to try and post more often
but with fewer words.
but there may be more misspelled words.
if i misspell a word, you will still come here, right?
because i am a really bad speller.
i recently found my CAT test scores from elementary school.
yeeeeeah, not such a high score in the "spelling" category.
but that is why we have spell check, right?
so, my apologies for my absence.
mom, especially to you.
for i am certain
that you have checked this blog
every day
for the past
6 months.
you love me.
and my horrible spelling.
i am so very excited about the projects i am working on right now.
too excited.
i laid in bed the other night from 11:30-2:00AM.
i could not turn my creative brain off.
laid there and designed and redesigned the playroom.
which is the room i'm working on right now.
(i know, i know, you are thinking, "uh, elisabeth, what the heck happened to the dining room? and all that crappy stuff you bought for really cheap at the thrift store that you promised would be fabulous? and didn't you post on facebook that you did a bunch of stuff to your kitchen?")
it's coming, it's coming. i have one more thing to do in the dining room
and then i will share.
lots to come....
back to me laying in bed at 2 am NOT asleep:
i kept thinking to myself,
i really should just get up and write all of these ideas down
so i remember them in the morning.
i think i fell asleep soon after that thought.
and i remembered in the morning!
and i will post pictures.
even if it's not perfect.
or done.
which it won't be.
because nothing is
perfect.
or done. ;)
this was long and no pictures.
thanks for sticking with me.
i've missed you,
it's good to be back.
broken goods: fix it already!
i completed another one of lauren's projects today. (go here to find out who lovely and talented lauren is.) lauren's project this week was to fix all that broken stuff around your house that you keep ignoring month after month or even year after year. go here to see what lauren fixed. i chose to fix a table and lamp. both items reside in our guest room. the table was made by my father-in-law. it's walnut and is a reproduction of an antique that he saw in a friend's house. the lamp is an alabaster lamp that belonged to my grandparents.
here is the table and broken piece.
i used elmer's wood glue.
a little dab of glue...
...here...
...and there.
wipe off the mess. (sorry...bad bad picture.)
now for the lamp. the old shade was yuk. threw it away.
bought a new shade and harp at target.
removed old harp.
installed new harp.
put old finial back on. (someday i will get a prettier finial. this one is plastic. not that nice.)
voila! new lamp shade!
table and lamp fixed!
this little fix-it project took me all of ten minutes. i already had all of the supplies. it was just a matter of deciding to do it already! thanks again lauren for the motivation. i can't wait for next week's project!
blog goods: pure style home
lauren, from pure style home, featured me -or my closet, rather- on her blog today! her blog is one of my favorites. if you don't already know of her, you've got to go check out her blog. she is a fabulously talented designer. i love her home and her blog. for the past few weeks she has been completing small projects around her home and then posting about it. she is encouraging her readers to join her and send in photos of their projects. for the first project she organized her paint samples into mason jars, last week she re-organized her coat closet. remember my post on the shoe corner? well, i sent her the pics and link to my post and she loved it and posted about it today. check it out here.
here is lauren's closet after her re-do. i love the color and the matching wooden hangers.(i am a huge fan of painting closets.) i also love how she built the shelves in for the shoes.
here is my closet. i painted it when we painted the hall and kitchen. mr. goods built the peg boards. the shoe rack is from wal-mart. the wire shelves are ancient! they were in my bedroom when i was in jr. high! the blue bins inside the shelves are from target.
there are some other really great closets that lauren featured. this is one of my favorites. she used a harp box as a storage closet. so unique. love it!
lauren's project for this week is to fix something in your home that is broken. we all have stuff laying around that has been broken for months or even years. why don't we just fix them already? these kinds of projects usually only take minutes to complete yet we don't get around to them for months. i have a table with a broken leg that i'm going to fix. all it needs is a dab of wood glue. it's been sitting there broken since we moved into our house 3 years ago. i think it's about time to fix it. thanks for the motivation lauren!
mantle goods: for now anyway
do you remember my post about antlers? and the beautiful pictures from design*sponge of samantha's house?
samantha's mantle
i was quite smitten by her home and became compelled to do something about it. seeing as i don't have a money tree in the back yard to redecorate my entire home (which is probably a good thing anyway since i keep changing my mind these days about what i want, love and can't live without) i decided to go for the mantle. i used items that i already had (which was a stretch since i usually decorate with lots of color) and in about an hour came up with this:
(please excuse the tacky white cord.) using all these neutrals and earthy/animal trinkets is usually not my style at all. but i like this look for the fall season. it's warm and interesting to look at. (note to the wives out there: apparently it's not so cool to hang a deer rack above the fireplace unless it's one that your husband shot and killed himself.) so...out of respect for the mr. my antlers will be coming down when the Christmas decorations go up. it's ok though...i'm sure by then i'll be inspired by someone else's mantle and i'll be over the whole earthy animal thing.
blog goods: new friends and sweet giveaways.
so far, i have to say, the best part about blogging is discovering other blogs. i had no idea there was such a blogiverse out there. i am constantly inspired by what other bloggers are putting out there. what i love the most is seeing galleries of these bloggers homes. i was blown away when i found michelle's home. that girl's got style! check out her bedroom...
another fun thing about finding other blogs is the giveaways. do you like anthropology? do you like incredible design books? head over to fiona&twig to get the scoop on how you can enter to win these things. good luck!
